    Default Advice on wood selection

I would like to construct my own version of this novelty toddler bed. With a few modifications.

    Boat Toddler Bed - KidKraft

    Modifications are:
Single size bed instead of toddler sized.
Boat built around this slat bed.
    FJELLSE Bed frame - IKEA

They use mdf and rubber wood (Malaysian oak).

I as wondering if mdf was a good choice for a toddlers bed decorative frame? I was thinking of using plywood but I'm not sure how well the edges can be rounded. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Wilier, I've a friend who makes children's beds (NaNight Beds) and he uses MDF. When I asked him he says it's all down to the paint it's covered in to cancel out any of the dangers you are thinking of.

However if you still have concerns, then you could always apply an edging to plywood with real wood and that would take and shaping and not splinter or crack as you you think plywood will.
