    Default Air Compressor Question

Hey fellers. I have finally got myself an air compressor and brad nail gun + several other air tools. Being a complete newbie to compressed air systems, I was wondering, after you have finished using the compressor, should you release all the air in it + open the condensation drain valve, or is it OK to just leave it full of compressed air on a permanent basis ?. The instruction book is a bit patchy on this info. It is a 30ltr Peerless direct drive compressor. Cheers for any info.

The amount of water vapor it condenses into liquid depends how much air is compressed.
If you just use it so it cycles a couple of times, then it will condense very little water so it can just sit there full of air.
If it cycles more than a couple of times then it is better to vent it after use. If you use for long periods then venting every half day is appropriate .

I have my compressor in an enclosure outside my shed and have set up a power switch, and a 24V solenoid up to the vent valve, so I can switch the compressor on and off, and vent the compressor, from inside the shed.

    Hi Pariss,
Living in Cairns as you do, the high humidity will cause a large quantity of condensation in your tank, so I would open the drain every time I finish using the compressor.
    Regards,
    Geoff.

Thanks for the helpful advise fellers. I have noticed that after only 10 minutes use and a couple of cycles, I get about a thimble full of water out of the drain plug. Here in the tropics condensation is a real problem with anything metal, in particular, cast iron surfaces on table saws etc. Cheers.
