I don't know what the recent Scheppach machines are like but years ago I worked at a workshop for handicapped people, we wanted to buy rough sawn timber and needed a planer/thicknesser combo. I called a well known woodworking machinery seller, they suggested the Scheppach 8" combo machine, it was pretty cheap so we got one to give it a try. It was a total POS, the belt would slip off, the tables were not flat, the thicknesser would jam up with anything wider than a few inches.
We got our money back and got a Luna 10" L39 which was all class, couldn't fault it, cost four times the price though, so you get what you pay for.

The "Scheppach" name is absolutely the only German thing about them. The rest is worst quality Chinese rubbish, with zero QA either in the factory or at the importer. Never mind - if something isn't right, H&F will happily give you a replacement machine......and another.......and another.....lol

I recommended the mens shed purchase a Scheppach Oscillating spindle sander since surmised it would not received much punishment. Well my prediction about usage was correct but they still managed to burn the motor out in a couple of months usage. It was replaced - no questions asked but I'm bot holding my breath.

I have an Aldi/Scheppach bandsaw. Still going strong going on 2 years. I use 3.5mm up to 1/2” blades.

I have a full-sized Scheppach bandsaw. It's crap. Just about every (plastic) handle/control on the thing has snapped off and had to be replaced with homemade wooden ones, and the Euro guides are a piece of junk. What's worse, when I looked into converting the guides to a bearing or ceramic system it appears none of the aftermarket offerings fit this saw. H&F must have got tired of warranty repairs on these saws (Basato 4), as they no longer sell them. They had to replace a whole lot of parts on mine right from new, but no complaints from me about service from H&F.
Lesson learned. If you can't buy a decent quality tool/machine, it's best not to buy anything at all.

The combo machine does not show up on Aldi's web page so I think the catalogue was a mistake.

I wondered if it would be in the hard copy but I got one today and it isn't. I wonder if it will be in the store Dave got the brochure from? I reckon they withdrew it from the sale.

It all depends if it cuts true at 90 degrees and stays at 90 degrees. If it cuts a true right angle I say you can't go wrong for $50 and have the space for it.
I wouldn't expect it to cut hardwood very well. In any case it probably wants a different blade to get the best from it, which might cost as much as the saw.
If you have to constantly reset the angle to keep it true then you might as well use a circular saw and a jig. IMHO.

Precisely!
Which is fine for people who are good at returning things under warranty. Personally I'm a bit hopeless at keeping receipts and returning stuff. Although I'm trying to get better at that because I've noticed over the last few years that it's more common that I have to return things.

I went to the ALDI near work in Dandenong and they only had the mitre saw and the band saw (which I bought), but no combo machine.
They also had a little paint sprayer for $49, the type with the separate motor and the hose. I bought that one too, if it can do my fence once I'm a happy man
oh and black plasterboard screws.
