Alternative Timbers for End Grain Cutting Board?
Hi,
Would like to start a small end grain cutting board project which has a beautiful display of different coloured woods i.e. purpleheart, rock maple, walnut and cherry as in the image below.
Because these are all imported timbers I'm wondering what suitable aussie timbers may give a similar appearance? Also as I live in Adelaide from where could I source the timber from. I know we have Otto's Timber here but am unaware of anywhere else here in Adelaide?
Cheers,
John

Thinking of doing something similar myself.
Wondering how important wood movement is for timber selection. Can anyone provide advice?
Started by looking for timber that combines reasonable density with low movement. so far I have found:
Density Tangential Radial Celery Top Pine 644 1.9 1.2 Hoop Pine 514 2.3 1.8 NG Rosewood 572 2.4 1.7 Qld Maple 546 2.5 1.5
NG Rosewood looks promising because it has a colour range from light golden honey through to blood red.
