    Angry *Annoyed*

I needed a decent 7mm drill bit for making pens so I went out and grabbed a CMT set... the 7mm bit worked beautifully

But then I tried the other ones (8mm, 9mm, 10mm) and they are outta whack! The tips wobble and make an oversize hole

CMT are supposed to be one of the best brands... what's going on here then??

    What should I do??

Return them and get a refund!!

Addictive Pen Kits sell the DeWalt 7mm bits, they are very, very good for drilling pen blanks.

Are you sure you hand them mounted correctly in the chuck?

Unlikely that an experienced woodworker - especially one who turns pens, doesn't know how to mount a drill in a chuck...
Is it wrong to be in love with a sawbench?

    You do wonder at times........

I received a 27/64" drill bit from one of my US suppliers and, like FC is saying, the point of the bit made little circles when running in the drill press.

I wondered straight away whether I had put it in the drill chuck correctly, so tried several times, all with the same result. Finally admitted defeat and concluded I had a "wobbly" bit.
Funny thing though, you roll it around and it seems straight.

Sorted through my drill bit drawer and actually found that I had a 27/64" bit, put it in the drill press, and that was perfect.

Reported the problem to my supplier, who issued a PayPal credit straight away. He said it was the first time he had had a complaint on these drills.

    So it can happen.

    Aww shucks.. Someone believes me

Artme gave me some ideas (clean everything) so I'll try that and see what happens.

Oh and it's pretty obvious when you don't mount the bit in the jaws correctly

If it is the bit, I get mine from gpw, they have a wider throat and work really well on all types of blanks.

It's the bits.. Cleaned everything, 10mm-8mm bits wobble, 7mm spins perfectly true, dunno about the bits below 7mm

    Should I take them back?

    Yep, blud oath
I'd say definitely merchantable, Ask for a new set or your money back. Why should we accept goods which don't do what they are supposed to do
