G'day Rusty,
From some clients who have been made to go to see this guy by department heads they agree it's just "evangelical-self-empowerment" bs.
Go candy shopping at the Show, droll over things you ca't afford and buy some things you can afford and learn some stuff.
Just my 2 cents based on feedback from others on this bloke.

Robbins is the best of the self-improvement gurus. His books are inspirational and may guide you not just in selling but in other areas of life. He has made squillions and is a regular contributor to charities. I would have a look at his book Unlimited Power first and then perhaps make a decision.
Other option though is to try and do both, ie take Friday off go to the Wood show and then go to Sydney for Robbins. If you are keen on interstate trips, attend one of the Woodworking shows in the other cities perhaps.

I wouldn't even cross the street to see that guy talk. One thing's for sure, he's making a lot of money out it.
"I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."

G'day,
I agree with SilentC.
He's out to suck suckers in with a free ticket to the first talk to suck you into parting with more money for the 2nd and 3rd etc. These people make you feel great at the time, but at the end you walk out with stuff all and moths in your wallet.
Change yourself, don't pay money (in this case an airfare) to hear what you know you can change.
Think of that real estate guy and the ACCC he duped bucket loads from the masses of gulible people and didn't deliver on his promise of wealth, OK this guy is a little different - but for me no different.

I have always been suspicious of anyone who sells information- seems that they need to keep customers coming back, so they're only going to tell you what you want to hear. No chance of them selling me anything cos I don't have the money. Still, I'm committed to going, now. If it's boring (as well as being a crock) I may have to take the Gonzo route- Fear and Loathing at Darling Harbour; "I have A Vincent Black Shadow..."
Serously, I'm only expecting a bit of a laugh at worst. At best I admit I'd like to come away with one or two "skills" that I didn't have before. I figure that if Robbins has been poaching the best bits from religion and philosophy then truth is truth, no matter who presents it. I'm pretty good at spotting BS.
I'll be going along with it all on the outside, but I'll have my cynical underpants on. Reliable friends have been instructed to tke swift action if I come back talking like a convert.
I'm only spewing about the lousy timing. BTW, Zed, it's a four day thing, so sadly there's no way of catching any of the Melb. WWWS.
Nah, it'll be good. Really. I'm sure of it. Honestly...

If the ticket's free then go along......get to see the power of mob hysteria for yourself.
Ive had a few friends do these motivation courses and in most cases I didnt like the people they became......arrogant and constantly pointing out flaws in my character to me and suggesting I do one of the courses myself.
Me..I'd rather spend the time in my workshop..I dont need some septic lecturing me on how I should run my life.
Go in with an open mind but before you do do a bit of reading up on Robbins and other people like him. Read testimonials from people who have benefitted from the course but also from people who have not found benefitted from the courses.
Cheers MartinWhatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)

I have been to a number of motivational seminars mostly for business training etc. After a bit of digging, and believe me you have to dig, the vast majority of these seminars and events are run by religious groups like the Mormons.
I’m not saying that Tony Robbins is, but it might be worth a bit of research. I’m not sure of the real facts but organisations like Amway have been linked to a religious cult over the years.
Like many people I am a bit of a sceptic when it comes to this sort of stuff, if you cut out all the hype and BS there is a fundamental message in there somewhere linking to religious learning’s.
They have done a good job on concealing the messages into self motivation and business practices.
Stick with the wood unless you are one of those people who needs enlightening and fulfilment. We all know where the path to enlightenment and fulfilment will lead you, praise the lord.

Rusty,
If you have let someone talk you into going to spend 4 days listening to that sort of stuff, instead of attending a WW show, I just wonder what else they will talk you into. My only hope is that you will find the experience as off-putting as I found a Billy Graham meeting that a friend talked me into attending many years ago. I agree with the people who are suggesting that the free tickets are just a hook to lure people who are susceptible to crowd-psychology into laying out large sums. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Rusty,
Reading through the posts I think you need to go. The urge has ovetaken you and you mind is already captive. Go forth my son, learn the teachings of a great motivator and become a noodle. After all wodwork is just a means of cutting down trees and turning them into sawdust. As you know this process ( making sawdust) leads to pleasure, mateship, a few beers in the shed, even a finished project of which you are proud. I could go on and ruin your life wherein you spend your time listening to people telling you what a jerk you are and how they can fix you up for a few dollars..............etc. ad nauseum. The real path to salvation is the WW Show, go and see the real light and listen to the true word!If you can do it - Do it! If you can't do it - Try it!
Do both well!
