Far out. I hope I'm not as big a fool as some have assumed. Thanks for all your replies; I think the board has well and truly spoken. I'm still goin'.

I can't apologise, backflip, self-deprecate, or over-explain more than I have in previous posts. I asked, you answered, I ignored at my peril. On reflection, it was a pretty dumb question to put to the Australian Woodwork forums. (OK, perhaps I can still back-pedal). One last time: I am not going to sell my woodworking soul. Well, not for what I've been offered...

Again, thanks for caring enough to threaten me with decapitation by chainsaw (really). If I learn anything at all, or if something funny or stupid happens (or is innocently caused ) I'll post a follow up.

Would it help if I wore a foily, do you reckon?

    Regards,
    Rusty.

Come on, how bad can it be? The dudes not really an undercover Mormon is he?

Just be ready to shout out "which day, Tuesday, Wednesday" when Robbins or one of his aids says "at the end of the day"

Default Robbins, what is he worth?

Wish I had stumbled across this thread earlier.

Robbins is like many teachers in the sense that his teachings will be greatly tempered by the attitude of the student. We have all probably had the frustrating experience of trying to show someone how to do a new thing or technique when they already think they know everything.

From personal experience, I have used the teachings of Anthony Robbins and "Others like him" to help me grow from a Uni dropout with a panic disorder who could not leave home on and off for 8 years, (This is when I took up woodwork) to the owner of the company that exports, markets and distributes Triton in Japan.

When curing myself of the panic disorder, I read and still do read copiously. Robbins is a very good digest of more material than most people would ever cover.

He wil probably recommend his series of regular cassettes "Power Talk". Spending a great deal of time on the road in Japan, I find these to be a hell of a lot more interesting than talk back radio where listening to people have a whinge seems to entertain many.

I love the WWW shows. Flew down from Japan for the recent one in Sydney. Saw many of the regulars, heaps of tools that are on the shelves a Bunnings and also saw some new products being demonstrated. Was very pleasant and interesting, but not life changing.

A choice between an event that can (Based on my own experience) drastically change the direction of your life, or one that can help you along in the direction you are going, really gets down to how much you want in life.

Looking forward to reading Rusty's comments.

    Steve

You have formed your opinion on car crashes because you know of the injury to people (or worse) and have seen the damge to vehicles and wallets that crashes cause.Perhaps you have been involved in one yourself. Are you saying Anthony Robbins is a bad thing, and if so,on what do you form your opinion?

Tools, I trust your question is rethorical.
Rusty's delimena was whether to go the the Melb WWWS or go out of town to listen to Robbins.
As should be expected from this board, most of us told him to forget Robbins and go to the WWWS instead. The "advice" had very little do with the value or otherwise of what Robbins has to say but was mostly about why he should go to the Melb WWWS

Ian,my question was not rhethorical. Many of the comments made were as you said about why he should go to the woodwork show. But many others were assessments of Tony Robbins and his courses.

IMNSHO i reckon all those guys are just wankers selling quick fixes to the questions you already know the answers for anyway.

    <o> </o>

    The only person I know who likes that sort of stuff is an amway wanker - cant stand him either. <!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype id="_x0000_t75" coordsize="21600,21600" o:spt="75" oreferrelative="t" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" filled="f" stroked="f"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"/> <v:formulas> <v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"/> <v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"/> <v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"/> <v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"/> <v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"/> <v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"/> </v:formulas> <vath o:extrusionok="f" gradientshapeok="t" o:connecttype="rect"/> <o:lock v:ext="edit" aspectratio="t"/> </v:shapetype><v:shape id="_x0000_i1025" type="#_x0000_t75" alt="" style='12pt; 12pt'> <v:imagedata src="file:///C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\msohtml1\01\clip_image001.gif" o:href="https://www.woodworkforums.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif"/> </v:shape><![endif]--><!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->

If he's so hot, whats he doing schlepping around Oz? His principles will make you 'millions', why don't he go and do it himself?...........

    Well,he has. Tools

    <o> </o>

You're trying to decide whether you should stay in your own backyard and visit an exhibition of equipment and techniques for which you have a passion or travel some considerable distance to attend a seminar on a whole heap of crap that you could read in any number of books by even more qualified idiots than the one you describe.

    <o> </o>

I'd rather spend the time in my workshop..I dont need some septic lecturing me on how I should run my life.

    <o> </o>

    <o> </o>

These dudes are the modern version of snake-oil salesmen.

    <o> </o>

Robbins should only take about ½ a day by my calcs you can do both ...

    <o> </o>

    <o> </o>

So my question still stands...how many have been to see him,or even know anything about what the weekend is about?

    G'day Tools,

Snake oil salesmen are all the same. Nothing different and all crooks. If you want to bow down to him, kiss his shirt tails well maybe you should be at his scam in Sydney.

Waldo, again I ask the question...what have you based your assessment of him on?What do you know about him?

Henry KAye was a crook, but that doesn't mean that everyone who has anything to do with real estate is a crook...same thing really.
