Thread: Aquarium Stand

Hello all,


I am wanting to upgrade my minute fish tank, as it is currently to small for the stock of fish in it, to a larger glass version.Though with upgrading the tank I must also upgrade the stand on which it is to sit, and after seeing the poor/sub-standard construction of some of the stands on offer in various shops, I have decided to build my own.

I would like it to be strong enough to accommodate the weight of the tank (preferably a 3 foot tank) and water etc, so have decided to use and Australian hard wood. I was thinking a nice oak, or jarrah, though am open to suggestions. The faces will be covered, just don't know with what as of yet, probably a complementary wood.

As a student, not much money is piled up so it would be nice if I could work withing the $200 mark, anything cheaper is a bonus. Got all the gear to build it so no need to purchase it.

Just need a bit of guidance as to what joints I should use for th frame and were? Currently in the design process so I can still edit with your suggestions.
