    Default The Armidale Men's Shed

Last week my wife and I spent a week tripping about the Armidale (NSW) area. One morning I found that my car's front wheel alignment was out and that I needed some new tyres and the wheel alignment corrected. What a nuisance or so I thought. But no! It turned out a hidden blessing. Next to the tyre place that we went to is the Armidale Men's Shed. With no car for a few hours and in some unknown part of an unknown city we looked for somewhere to sit and wait. Then I noticed the Shed and that the front door was open. We went in and what a sight it was. The gentleman that we met there is truly a gentleman. We were made welcome and he showed me around their workshop. It was really something from woodworkers heaven. The blokes there have access to a vast range of huge industrial quality machinery. And they are proud of it. It was spectacular. But more than that was the kindness they showed to two complete strangers. The time we spent there was a highlight of our trip. We also meet a lovely artist called Alanna who spent ages talking with my wife who is a keen painter.

If you live in Armidale and you like woodwork or think you might, you could do a lot worse than drop in for a visit.

    Indeed it is.
A few years back col Harris retired (he owned armidale joinery) and instead of selling off everything it become the men's shed.
A great way for col to stay in the trade and armidale got to keep great resources (both col and his business)

The have a jointer that is so big I could park my car on it. They have a band saw for re-sawing that must weigh half a ton. They have a panel saw that would cost perhaps 50 to 80 thousand to replace. They have ...everything, including kindness to visitors.
