Arrival of new toy..
My SCM 1100mm wide twin belt sander was delivered today.

I like my gears in white. now everything is white except the compressor.... whhich it will be placed behind the workshop eventually
IMG_4364.jpg
It made the existing 920mm wide sander look like a baby. new sander measures 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.9m, old sander is 1.2m x 1m x 1.7m
IMG_4367.jpg
2 x 150mm + 2 x 125mm extraction hood, meaning the main trunk of the extraction system need to be at least 250mm. I am glad I went for 250mm main trunk when I setup the ducting..
will be running a VSD on the sander, otherwise I will blow the fuse on the street when I start the 25hp monster and the line company will have to come out, it will be easy to spot who the culprit is as my street is quite short lolSCM L'Invincibile si X, SCM L'Invincibile S7, SCM TI 145EP, SCM Sandya Win 630, Masterwood OMB1V, Meber 600, Delta RJ42, Nederman S750, Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500, Ceccato CDX12

on the plate and manual it says 1300kg... its double the weight of the old sander which is still quite a sizable machine. so I wonder where the weight is...
My accountant told me I am not doing my business a favour if I keep buying machinery, well, she doesnt understand the joy of using quality Italian machine.
unless a dirt cheap/good condition Coral/Alko/Felder extraction unit is available on the market otherwise this will be the last machinery for now..... I dont see myself need more machinery than what I already have.
Swing chisel mortiser, Pneumatic dual mitre saw, full size combi machine, band saw, sander, compressor, mobile engine crane, Festool powertools.. think thats enough for a 9x6 garage lolSCM L'Invincibile si X, SCM L'Invincibile S7, SCM TI 145EP, SCM Sandya Win 630, Masterwood OMB1V, Meber 600, Delta RJ42, Nederman S750, Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500, Ceccato CDX12

Its a real joy to get a "new toy" be brand new or not.
I was reading somewhere that your type of drum sander, featuring twin drums, has the drums set at 5°, off the perpendicular, to stop any lines in the timber as it goes through the machine. Do yours have this feature? I am wondering if its a "gimmick" or a worthwhile feature.
I have been fiddling around making my own for over a year. It only has one 600mm drum. The hold up has been figuring out the conveyor to feed the article through the machine.
I like your comment on Italian machines. I bought a SCM Panel Saw. Its a 1983 model with 300mm blade and scriber, with 3000mm sliding table. When I went to pick it up it was bundled up and swinging on the end of a gantry crane in the factory. I didn't have an opportunity to check its vitals until I got it home (450km away) To my delight when I set in position and ran a panel through it to check things out.....it cut square right off the bat.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Hi Chambezio.
As you can see from the photo I only got it yesterday so I am yet to hook it up.
there are two buttons on the main control board to carry out a special function I don't know what it is, it has triangular sign on it.
I use the platen to get rid of the sanding lines. It is a very useful function. Most wide belt sander has this function. Turn the knob and the platen is down, turn it the other way it's up. Have to be careful with the sander tho, I once tried to take off 1mm off the stock at 900 wide and the motor just seized.
My old sander is 30 years old and it is stil true, when I first got it I thought I better get a technician to fine tune it, technician arrived in site spent about an hour checking all features and told me the roller is out of alignment, the left and right is out by 0.05mm, I didn't know what to say so I asked do you want to tune it to 0.00mm? Lol
I have not had a problem with it except the consumables. The amount of steel it has made me wonder was the steel free back then ?SCM L'Invincibile si X, SCM L'Invincibile S7, SCM TI 145EP, SCM Sandya Win 630, Masterwood OMB1V, Meber 600, Delta RJ42, Nederman S750, Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500, Ceccato CDX12
