Need Assistance, Please have a read
Greetings,
I am from NSW, And as some of you will know Customs are pretty strict with importing some things into Australia (That's okay though, better safe than sorry) Anyway, I make movies (sort of a hobby) and I am wanting to produce a (small, pretty low budget) war film set during the second world war about two members of the 101st Airborne lost on D-Day. Anyway back to Customs, so i need to get replica firearms for the film, and I imported a solid Resin M1A1 Thompson SMG. It was seized and I'm having it sent back. So i thought if I cant get replica guns into Australia, what else can i do? I woke up a few days ago and thought this: If i can find someone who would or knows someone who would be able to make a few weapons out of wood for me, it would be perfect.
I asked around. Nothing. So I found this forum, and now i'm asking the question:
Would anyone, Who lives in or around Sydney be able to help me out and make a few weapons out of wood? I would buy the wood but you'd be mainly working for experience. 4 or 5 guns would be really good but that's upto you.
I will post photos of the weapons that i would like..
If you want to talk about it, or have any ideas please email me at:
[email protected] or if you'd prefer, just post a reply to this message.
Thanks for your time. I hope to hear from someone soon..Last edited by 101abn506pir; 30th August 2003 at 06:46 PM.

My understanding is that under the new gun laws even imitation guns, if they look real, are illegal. My brother in law had to hand in his imitation replica pistols under the original gun buyback.
Have you checked this or do you have a licence for those guns.

In WA you would definitely have to have a licence to possess replica firearms and may have to store them in a steel gun cabinet. I can't imagine that NSW is markedly different in that regard.
Before you do anything, go see your local police and talk to them. It may be that you can do the import thing if you pre-arrange a licence for the specific replicas.

I would need a Firearms Licence, and if i needed to import a replica, i'd also need a Dealer licence. That's why i had to send the M1A1 back, and that's why i wanted to get someone to make 'em for me.

...And then after i've got a firearms permit i'd have to request an application for a B709A Form from the Defence Dept. for each gun, and anyway, no where on the internet sells replica mg42s (the rest of them, yes. but not mg42s)
And so basically, I thought that making them would be alot cheaper and easier. So if anyone would please be able to help me, i would really appreciate it..

I would assume that whoever makes these for you would need to have all those permits and licences before he actually starts making them.
Thats a lot to ask of someone who " would be mainly working for experience "
Not surprising you got no reply asking around.
Peter.

From my understanding of the current situation you shoulld realy be talking to a theatrical armourer who should be able to provide the appropriate pieces and provide all the necessary supervision.
However you may as shane said be able to get some assistance from a gun club.

Hve you checked with Grundy's or Village Roadshow? It's possible they hire them out.
