Assistance sought...
I am going to make a Jewellery Box for Mrs P for her birthday. I have never made a box and I am currently having a serious mental blank re design etc.
I am thinking dovetailed corners (My first dovetails) top with veneer inlay and bevelled edges. For inside My thoughts are felt on the bottoms and a drop in tray. If anyone can help by posting pics of boxes they have made, or links to sites with pics, it would be much appreciated.
Also, where might I buy adhesive backed felt and mail order veneers?
Thank you in advance,

Another option to consider for the lining is suede leather which can be obtained from saddlers and no doubt many other places. One box that really caught my eye a while back was made by rabster .
Dovetails are nice but a simple mitred corner with some keys for strength can look very classy also.
As for veneer I was thinking of trying one of the veneer packs from Trend Timbers for my next box project.Dan

Dan,
I am finishing a chinese checkers set for a friend. The board, veneered mdf, slides into a box, which holds the 'marbles' in storage. I noted at Carbatec WA in Perth that they have a "Flocking" product in different colours. It has an adhesive which gets painted into the box, then a powdery fluf that one sprinkles over the adhesive. Once set the excess is brushed off. I havn't used it yet, but will pick some up as soon as I am fit enough to pay them a visit. To me it seems like it does away with all the cutting and fitting that one has to do with felt and suede.
Once the chinese checkers set is done, I'll post a picture.

Have you thought of a bandsaw box. I am just experimenting at the moment so have nothing to show, but have a look at this site - http://www.jeffgreefwoodworking.com/pnc/Boxes/Bandsawn/
Of course you will need a bandsaw.
I've seen a few of these boxes in craft galleries and have always loved them (but not their price).
Saw how they were made recently so am working on my own.
Regards
Don

you can get self adhesive felt from Spotlight, in terms of box have a look at this website. This will give you some ideas regarding the dimensioning and proportions. http://www.australianwoodcraft.com.a...nt%20boxes.htm
