Default Attaching railing post to bearer

    Hi All,

My first post so please be kind

I want to attach a post for a railing on a deck, to a bearer and want to understand the best way to do it.

Normally I would check out part of the post and run it down the side of the bearer, unfortunately the size of the bearer is 90mm (it is actually made of 2 x 45x145 lengths) and the post is 88x88mm, and they need to be in vertical alignment.

I was concerned that checking out part of the bearer would be too impactive to the strength of the bearer?

But other then some form of bracket I can't thing of a better solution?

    Any one have an idea?

    Thanks,
    coey

Sounds like a steel plate either side would be the go.

You are right to avoid checking out the bearer.
