I had the timber delivered today using a tilt tray truck and for a crazy cheap price of $220.00

I'm going to cut most of them in half using my compound mitre saw and some I'd like to cut down the middle using a bench saw.

I to was thinking the same, cut a short section off and dress it and post a good picture of the colour and grain for identification.

Now to buy a half decent 10'' bench saw, any recommendations. All my corded and cordless tools are Makita but I do like to reviews of the Hitachi bench saws.

Any closer to a definite identification now that you've got it?

    Nice.

Usually, I would advise against prematurely cutting the timber, as the next job will require timber that is a little longer ... But, even cut, lengths will still be 3+ metres, so probably less of an issue.

However, I would advise against ripping the timber until you know precisely what you need. Wider boards are almost always better. This is reflected in pricing where you pay a "width premium" for wider boards.

Have you figured out what it actually is? I don't think a 1500W benchtop saw is going to like ripping Blackbutt that thick for very long.

I'd be looking for a proper cabinet saw; at least 5HP if you have 3-phase, or 3HP if you're stuck on 240v (you'll still need a 15A plug wired in if you don't have one already).

Hi Elan, I haven't bought the table saw yet I'm only looking online at what is available at this stage and what I have found is without spending thousands getting one to cut to a depth of 150mm isn't possible.

Yes a single pass would be time saving so maybe another cutting option would be 2 cuts one from either side.

The type of saw you mentioned do you have an idea on what I'd need to spend.

So you want to rip in half through the thickness huh? That's going to need a big saw. Normally I'd suggest finding a mill that can run it through a big bandsaw for you, but your location looks rather remote so there might not be anything available... Also, be aware that resawing through the thickness can end up bending it. A lot. I haven't worked with cypress (if that is indeed what it is) so I don't know how it behaves, but I have seen flat boards come out the back of a saw after ripping down the middle with 15-20mm of bow over 2m.

Yes a single pass would be time saving so maybe another cutting option would be 2 cuts one from either side.
You need a 12" saw to get a 75mm cut and a fair amount of power to send a blade through that much wood. You could probably get away with 3hp and proper rip blade if you take it easy, but 5hp would really be better. The other alternative is a bandsaw with as wide a blade as it can handle.

The type of saw you mentioned do you have an idea on what I'd need to spend.
If you have 3-phase power, you can find used industrial machines for $2-3k. Unfortunately, once you start doing big jobs, you need big machines and they come with price tags to match.
$1500 is the cheapest used 3-phase I've found that would have a chance Used woodfast Woodfast model CS300 Table Saw Table Saws in BOOLAROO, NSW
Or there's this 10hp beast that would probably be done with the whole lot by lunchtime Used 2010 durden Durden rip saw 450mm blade 3 phase Rip Saws in , WA
Hopefully someone else can chime in about bandsaws, they're not really my department...

We've decided one of the 3hp Sawstop contractor saw benches is the way to go and am going to buy ours at the start of August.

So far using some of the timber I've made a raised deck for a temporary storage area while I'm waiting for the 2 x 20 foot shipping containers to come over to the house.

When we have the sawbench I'll start making the door and window frames along with the new barn type doors.
