An Aussie timber for making draw-bore pins?
Hi guys and gals,
I have been reading a lot lately about the benefits of draw-boring mortise and tenon joints. All that I have read is from above the equator and both the British and Americans use oak pretty exclusively to rive their pins. Obviously there is great benefit in riven Oak pins rather than cut or ripped pins, namely strong fibres and straight grain that runs all the way through the pin. Does anyone have any experience with riving pins in any kind of Australian timber? I've been looking through what I have for something strong and straight, but no luck yet. I don't have any US or European Oak in stock, but will put in the effort to hunt it up if I need to - but obviously would prefer to use something local if I can.
Over to you folks. Thanks
peteShine on you crazy diamond!

Any of our hardwoods will do. Their interlocked grain stands up to be bashed into place.
Our tassi oak / Vic ash will be a good readily available choice and comes bone straight and is always quarter sawn.
Even stronger would be spotted gum.
All woods split, most will work well too.
