Default Australian furniture making (techniques) book

I found this thread which gives many titles of useful books....
    Woodwork reference books?
    ....
but I'd prefer to read an Australian authored book (and it is not clear which of the listed books are Australian).
All the books I've located in my local library are American and although some are good it sometimes gets a bit tiresome trying to understand the American jargon. A lot are targeting already experienced/qualified furniture builders.
I'm self taught so thought it time to get educated by some experts in the finer points of building furniture as I start to dedicate more time to my hobby.

I've got one of these from when my dad was an apprentice back in the 80's. It must of been one of the first metric editions. I recently found a new one so it's still in print. It's a great book with solid info.

Another really great one is:Collins Complete Woodworkers Manual by Albert Jackson and David Day - AbeBooks

it doesn't quite fit the Aussie authored book but has a ton of explanation, pictures, techniques and tips. I picked one up from eBay for about $20.

Thanks guys. Looks like the Collins one is available through my local library so I'll give that a try before I buy.
Can't yet find any available copies to buy for the Woodwork in Theory but I'll keep searching.

Unfortunately I know of no Australian authored books that come anywhere close to the standard and coverage of books by US and UK authors.

    My recommendations include

The Essential Woodworker by Robert Wearing available as a PDF from Lost Art Press, or a hard copy from Henry Eckert The Essential Woodworker

A guide to Hand Tools and Methods
    Furniture-Making Techniques, Volume 1
    Furniture-Making Techniques, Volume 2
all titles by David Charlesworth, Guild of Master Craftsman Publications, available in Australia from Henry Eckert.

Illustrated Cabinetmaking: How to design and construct furniture that works by Bill Hylton, Fox Chapel Publishing, 2008

and not to forget Charles Hayward
many of the titles authored by Charles Hayward -- such as Cabinet making for Beginners and Practical Woodwork -- should be floating around second hand.
and then there's: The Woodworker - The Charles H Hayward Years - Vols 1 & 2 (Lost art Press) if you can afford it or can convince your library to buy it.

some of these titles are a bit exey, but to my mind they represent good value as a way of developing skill and solving problems.
    regards from Alberta, Canada

I tend to agree with Ian. Charles Hayward, Robert Wearing and David Charlesworth would be up there with the best. I have managed to score some cheap woodwork books by keeping an eye on the local secondhand book shop. Check out the local library as another source of woodworking books. Google woodworking books as some older ones are free download. I will finish by saying no single book is is the bible of woodwork so read as many as you can lay hands on.

I just bought this set -

Quite well written, lots of photos explaining the text and some really nice techniques.
