Default Australian plywood sources - again

Hi, I've been reading through the various threads on Australian plywood - I'm after an update for 2016.
My request is prompted by some binge watching of Matthias Wandal's youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCck...9aYw80B36aP9vw
Like many overseas woodworkers - he's got some interesting "birch" plywood projects and I'm wondering on the best source of similar grade material in Oz.
For my purposes it doesn't have to look great. I just want flat, strong material of regular dimension.
Are the Bunnings and Masters offerings reasonable value for money or is it worthwhile chasing the specialist suppliers?
    Thanks
    - Mick

Maybe have a look at marine ply as well, it's still expensive but I've found it to be well made with minimal variation compared to some of the crud you find elsewhere.

Plyco have a poplar ply which might work. Looks fantastic, light weight and much cheaper than interior grade hoop pine ply

    Plyco do Birch ply too.

How stable is the poplar Elan ? I got some hardwood ply once ... As soon as I cut it into pieces it bowed like crazy and I had to fight to get it flat again. Put me off a bit !

Thanks Justin, my first thought was grab some marine ply from bunnies, but the price made me think about it for a bit.
Elan/Glenn - I couldn't find the poplar version, but I see BB birch ply that I'll get a price on Birch BB/BB Exterior Plywood Birch Plywood [BCH] : -:PLYCO, Buy Plywood Online Now
What do most of you do? just grab stuff from Bunnings? Order from plyco, austral, bigriver?

The poplar isn't on their website, but while you're calling them ask about it.

We get normal sheet material (MDF, chipboard, melamine, structural ply) from Cabinet Timbers, they're around the corner from work, and special stuff like veneered board and bendy ply from Timberwood Panels and Plyco.

Only got introduced to it recently and haven't done a lot with it, but so far it's stayed dead flat.

I had another look in bunnings the other day, and the number of sheets that were warped in some way was a real worry. I'm talking about the AA marine ply here. Is this just poor storage/treatment or something that could occur post-purchase even if I select a good bit?

It is possible that the green shed is selling imported ply, I used to deal with ACL wood panels, but they are in Victoria, that was some years ago and I am unsure whether they still exist, If you have a good local timber yard, they will have access to whatever you want through their suppliers its just a matter of getting the right person, their trade representitive is usually the best bet.

I've had to buy my ply from the big green shed since "MrPly&Wood" closed its doors near me. To find a straight piece has been a miracle. Found another Hardware that stocks the same brand and it's no better re warpage, so I guess it's the brand
Found another hardware near the the beaches that delivers free and sells flat marine ply (so they say). Will find out in s couple of weeks as I have a laundry cupboard to build.

Heard good things about these guys, DMK Forest Products. They sell birch ply and other stuff.

    Mick,

I used to buy AA marine ply from the Big Green Shed to use for box top panels. However, the last twice I've cut a stack of 270x180 panels from their sheets the panels have warped horribly despite being relatively small, kept in dry conditions and no extreme temperatures. No idea why this has changed - didn't used to happen.
I second the recommendations for Plyco, though.

Exactly my fear... I'll chase some of the other suppliers suggested.

    Lappa,
Would this be Warringah Timbers by any chance?? I've used them before and it was a good experience.

If it's someone different could you let me know as I have a few sheets to order soon and am in the same location as you.

    Thx
    Jon
