Default Australian Standards for residential stair nosings

I've spent hours searching the internet for Australian Building Code regs (AS 1428.1 ?) and can find plenty of information on commercial or public stairs and nosings (or prohibition on nosings) but nothing on residential stair nosings.

The only commercially-available Tassie Oak nosing I can find is actually just a bull-nosed piece of 14.5 mil timber, without a rebate, so we’re going to have to make our own as our hoop pine floor boards are 21 mil thick. We plan to stain the Tassie oak dark to contrast with the white-washed pine.

As it’s Sunday I can’t just phone a flooring supplier to see if they know. I’m trying to make up a materials list and would like to complete it yesterday.

Can anyone tell me where I might find a link to the regs. that apply to residential stairs, please?

( I thought my login would get me into the Renovate forum, too, but it’s not so.)

Not sure of exactly what you're after, buy my understanding is that the risers have to be even distances, and a maximum of 190mm, and the treads must be at least 240mm wide.
    Is that what you're after?

Thanks Gab. It's details about the nosings, apparently not allowed on public stairways. I believe Lappa is sending them to me.

General National stair code is in this link.

I'll send the nosing info, if relevant, today.

Default Australian Standards for residential stair nosings

Nothing better than answering via private messages ...... it makes the forums just that little bit more useless for the next person with a similar question.

AS 1428.1 relates to buildings for people with disabilities, I was PMing to see whether it was relevent to the original question.

The NCC would probably be more relevant hence the link I posted.

Lappa was doing me the courtesy of asking, privately, if I required the standards for someone with a disability. I don't, but appreciated his courtesy in asking, privately.

    Default Found this little snippet....

In the link Lappa posted I found this:

'The tread width shall be not less than the going and there shall be a minimum overlap of 10 mm'.

There is no mention of a nosing, per se, but wonder if that is what this means. i.e. the nosing overhang must not be less than 10 mil.?

For those requiring information on the National Construction Code, which has taken over from Australian Standards re Construction, you can register with the NCC easily. Just fill in the areas that have red asterisks.

They still refer to the Australian Standards in some places, so you will still need access to them which has a subscription fee.

Volume 2 of the NCC is the one required for domestic housing.

    Cheers
