Bailey planes
I am after some advice please.
I have become interested in restoring some Bailey / Stanley planes. I have a couple of issues with lateral adjustment levers and the disc.one plane, a nice USA Pat dated 41/2 has the lever but missing the disc. Another very neat English #4 needs a lever. I have the lever but no rivet.
So in summary I need a disc and rivet.
Can anyone suggest rivets or rivet material and the same re the disc.
I am new to the restoration process so happy for any help.
some members have already been very helpful and generous with helping with bits and pieces.
I am learning and be more selective in what I buy infuture. 😩
cheers

No guarantees just tossing ideas.
When restoring try to avoid destroying the tools value.
First try finding original parts possibly from a junk hand plane.
Tossing ideas.
A 2 part pressed rivet might be the easiest.
A solid rivet would be very durable.
To peen a solid rivet using a rivet set would be challenging and would risk breaking or cracking the thin area of the frog.
A long 2 part pressed rivet of the correct diameter can probably be shortened.
Thread the center of steel or brass rod to make the disc.
Possibly use a small machine screw instead a rivet.
Use thread lock and center punch the center of the machine screw a few times to make the metal expand in the center of the disc to reduce the chance of the threads loosening.
