Default Possible to band saw 30mm rough sawn plank?

Is it possible to bandsaw a 30mm thick purpleheart plank (rough sawn 1200x270mm) into two? It's for use on a small harp.

I don't own a bandsaw so don't know what is possible, how straight they cut, how much I'll lose in the cut.

I'd like to slice it into two because it's beautiful (& expensive) timber and I don't want to waste it getting it down to thickness. Ideal is 13mm pieces but I can make smaller thicknesses work because I'm going to use it as a facing.

    Yes.

Some of the people here have a Laguna bandsaw. While any bandsaw can do the job you want, the Lagunas have the option of a Resaw King blade. It gives ultra smooth cuts that loose only 1.5mm in the cut (kerf)

These saws will cut 300mm logs all day.

Also, since it's only for facing, someone can cut 1 or 2mm veneers for you. You could get up to 10 or 15 sheets!

What Evanism said. You should dress the board first, then as you cut each veneer, run it over the jointer. A good bandsaw with a good blade will do it with no problems.

Thanks for that. Now I'll just need to hunt around for someone down here near the mornington peninsula who can dress & bandsaw it for me.

I have an old bandsaw with a 150 depth of cut. It has a small motor but will resaw the soft timbers I use okay. It has chewed through tonnes of silk oak for example over the years. But 150 mm is not so wide. What I do for wider boards is to make to passes on my table saw from either side of the slab. I can cut 100 mm in a pass on each side. Then I cut out the remaining center bit with a hand saw. I bit slow but I can get wide boards that way. No good for wide veeners though.
