basement hanging workshop drawers, linear bearings?
Hi,
I have a basement workshop and have a shelf which is pretty deep and holds many heavy tools. The shelf is next to the basement ceiling, so i'm thinking of making my own drawers and almost hanging them on a linear bearing. (with a guide at the bottom). What does everybody think of this idea, i think i need to take advantage of being able to use the ceiling for its weight caring capacity instead of relying and bending drawer slides.

I would not have a draw where I could not see the contents. Have a look around your home and you will see the draws are generally below waist height.
If the draw was up against the ceiling, how would you get items in or out? You would be better off with a box.
My preference is heavy items down load, light items up high. Makes it easier to move them. Just my 2cents worth.

I am with Handyjack.
I have drawer units 1200mm high in my shed. Any higher is nor usable. That is their absolute maximum safe & convenient usable height, in my opinion. At that height the top two drawers can only be used for light things - chisels, drawing/ marking/measuring, screws, nuts and bolts, etc.
Above that height shelves.... or racks.
Please note, you can fit a lot more into drawers and it is much easier to find things. They are really worth installing.
