Basswood Rounds, Ovals or Slabs
Can anyone here supply a good source with good prices on basswood ovals, rounds or slabs with bark on to be used for pyrography ?
I have looked on ebay and at $7.00 to $10.00 each plus very high S/H . That seems like way more than I would be interested in .
If you have a favorite supplier did they arrive without cracks or warps ? Did they require much sanding to be able to burn patterns on them ? .

Hi william,
All of the Basswood and Limewood (the British name) Ive seen in Australia has been imported and therefore somewhat outrageous in price. I have avoided it on that basis. Maybe your question is better suited to a North American forum such as Woodcarvers or Sawmill Creek,"We must never become callous. Preserving the bark will be dicey, whatever the source, requiring careful handling or restoration. You might need to fake it with glued-on remnants. This applies to any timber.
I'd suggest having a chat with a local tree surgeon or arborist, for enlightenment and possible sources.
