Default Bathroom Renovation - where to post new Thread

Hi everyone, i am just wondering if it is ok to post up a new Thread in this Forum about a major Rebuild of our Shower Recess, as well as a relocation of the Hot Water Cylinder, and if i can, which Forum section do i post it in.

I was hoping to find an Australian based Plumbing Forum as most of the complicated work involves plumbing, but i can't seem to find any (any suggestions would be appreciated)

The job at hand involves the following work.

    1. relocating the hot water cylinder from an internal laundry closet opposite the bathroom to the wall outside our kitchen where the Daikin heat pump unit is located.
    2. Ripping out the existing 850 x 850 shower base and screen to install a 1.7m x 1.0m walk in shower (allowing access by wheelchair) plus fitting the new mixer and shower head etc.
    3. Minor relocation of the Toilet Suite that is located on the other side of the shower recess wall (we need to move the wall forward by 150mm to widen the shower recess behind it)

    Cheers.

I worked the last 10 years before retiring designing and renovation bathrooms many for the same reason you are, the best advice or tips I can give you are
    1. avoid using a screen with a door, may be difficult as bathrooms are usually on the small size
    2. use a strip drain the full width of the shower recess usually the narrow side in your case 1.0mt
    3. use a hand held shower with a long hose and keep the taps/mixer low
    4. most important in all bathroom Renos pay particular attention to water proofing

    hope this helps

We built a new house to a custom plan last year, neither of us need wheel chair at present, but may in the future, spouse has had two ankle reconstructions and both knees replaced, my knees and ankles are shot but I put up with them as I live on Warfarin for other issues and nobody will operate on me for elective surgery. We designed whole house to be wheelchair friendly just in case, external doors flush with flooring and decking, ramps in position, no steps in essential traffic paths , flush floor roll in shower in ensuite etc.

Our shower is 1200 x 1700, accessed by glass frameless doors 900w and 300w, both hinged to swing in and out. With the narrow door swung out against the vanity and the wider one swung into the shower, there is enough room to roll a mobile shower chair into the shower and position it to suit. I suspect that this may be difficult with a 1000w shower recess if you access via the long side and need to turn, but should be OK if accessed from the end if there is enough space to maneouvre prior to entry.

We used a vinyl sheeting floor for the entire en suite (and 2nd bathroom) plus vinyl sheeting for the shower cubical walls to get a flat floor for access, just like they use these days for hospitals, nursing homes etc. Glass doors are about 8mm clear of vinyl floor and there is no seepage beneath the door to the flooring on the other side.

This all uses space and money, but since we were building for the rest of our lives, we considered it worthwhile to do it during construction, rather than try to modify later, but accept that you might not be in this situation. Happy to email floorplan, fitout details, photos etc if you think it might help, but I suspect that you may be beyond the planning stage and into the dealing with constraints stage (cash, space etc.) PM me if you think my meagre offers might help.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.
