    Default Beginner wanting to build simple TV unit. Plans anyone??

    Hi everyone.

    I'm looking to build a tv / home entertainment unit for my living room. I have a 50" TV to sit on top of it and I want it to be high enough to keep my 1 year old daughter from wiping her greasy paws all over the screen. I am looking for a simple design that a REAL beginner could acheive with a basic set of tools.

    I'd also like to keep a natural timber look to the unit. Would I be best of starting with some pine since this will be a first project for me? If anyone could point me in the right direction with regard to plans I would appreciate it.

    Seeing as you have such a large TV, I assume you want to do a decent job. As has been suggested, there are plenty of designs available yet an idea could be to build cabinets from veneered board, apply some edge tape and screw it all together in modular form so you have space for DVD units etc and drawers as well. If you want to cut costs a little, instead of using Veneered board, try using ply and the edge tape(it's of lesser quality with a similar finish if you stain/varnish it.
