bending jarrah strip - Special Veneer Softener
need to bend some 1.5mmx6mm jarrah strip around a guitar body and wonder if any one could recommend the carbatec veneer softener as being useful for this section size
the smallest diameter curve it needs to bend around is approx 12mm
i have a bending iron and hoping to help things along a little by using it
BTW what is in that stuff anyway??ray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

In the 2 years I have been trying to get some at carby's they never had it.
• 4 parts water
• 1 part alcohol
• 2 part glycerine
• 2 parts resin glue
But just water with a bit of washing up liquid also works, You just don't want it to dry out to quick.

I would try just soaking the veneers in water first or if that doesn't work, water/glycerin up to 1:1. If you are going to use a hot pipe to help bend them I'd steer away from using recipes with glue in them, they're more use when softening to flattening veneer. These veneers in this piece I hot pipe bent after soaking in water alone, they are 3+mm and 25mm diameter bend. I had to use a backing strap and I found that a folded oven bag had nearly zero stretch and handled the heat well.
