Bessey K-body order for Canberra from Northwood - interest?
Having been in CT sydney and been shocked that the cost of the Bessey K-bodies, I was going to put an order in to Northwood for 2xK60 and 2xK100 (or something like that). If anyone else in/around Canberra is interested in some, perhaps we could share the shipping. I'll wait until, oh say Wed 28/3 for expressions of interest.

not up for the Canberra jobbie, but I would be interested in a group buy from Lee Valley like has been done before?......Potentially could get 1000m K-body for around AU$60? hugs savings to be had.
apologies for the hijack.I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

S'ok - if I can get them from o/s cheaper and as quick then I'm willing to talk. From the archives, the last load sounded like a great idea but took a shotload of work and organisation. Right now, I'd just like a coupla clamps . BUT, in the next months, I'm sure 4-6 K150's for AU$70 or so wouldn't go astray .

If we can find someone to do the organising I'm sure there would be a few of us willing to put up another order. A couple of K150's would not go astray in the shed.

JohnC - you're K Body delivery guy doesn't work in Sale any more.
Martrix - the Lee Valley deal coincided with a special deal from the factory, they weren't normal prices, so I am not sure Rob & Co could drop the price sufficiently. Also, shipping from the States has gone through the roof, some woodworking companies simply won't ship overseas anymore because of it. If it IS cheaper somehow and goes ahead, I guess I can fit a few more in .

I missed that big group buy up.
To be honest, I didn't even know what a Bessey K body was back then. I thought it was just a big long thread on some weird clamp that wouldn't be of any use to me......if only I knew.
After getting 4/ K-60's earlier in the year, they are the best clamps I have ever used, but they are very $$$#.
Maybe Mr R.Lee is listening? ...... ..................I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

-----------single +4
12" (30) - $41.5 $38
25" (60) - $46 $42
41" (100) - $55 $51
50" (125) - $63 $58

It would be worth it on the K100's, IMO.
So, who did it last time, and can they give my some info on the freight options they looked at?

G'day,
The bloke who does www.thewoodwhisperer.com in episode 12 - The Big Squeeze, compares the new Jet version to the Bessey K body.
I'd love some, but one day my SWMBO might kill me. But on the bright side for you lot, that might mean a garage sale in Waldo's shed.

to save you looking up the old thread and without dobbing-in the culprit
for the Lee Valley deal Rob organised the freight ex his warehouse, with everyone paying for their own order using Rob's order system.
Freight was calculated on the basis of the individual orders bulked together, palletised and then loaded into a shipping container by Rob's people.
The co-ordinator(s) this end was responsible for
1) paying stevedoring charges, quarintine inspection, customs duty and GST
2) allocating these charges equitably across the shipment (don't underestimate this task)
3) collecting the fees
4) breaking the shipment up into the individual orders
5) sending these out by courier (from memory the company used was "Cope" )
Key "qualifications" for the co-ordinator were
a) access to a warehouse and people to unload the container and do the on-forwarding
b) an account with Cope so the local shipping wasn't "cash"
c) computer savy sufficient to reduce the administration burden
The Bessy deal Colin Raynor (of Northwood) negotiated for Forum members in late 2005 was almost as good as the Lee Valley deal (after all the extra charges attached to the LV deal are factored in)
The real benefit of the LV deal, as opposed to cutting a bulk order deal locally, was the opportunity to get things too heavy or long to ship by normal methods
