    Question New to Biscuit Joins

Hello everyone, I am new to biscuit joins, just boought a joiner. I have made some practice cuts but the 20# Porter Cable biscuits are really difficult to put into the join. How hard should it be to put the biscuit into the join? I can't get the two pieces of wood together, even of I hammer them! What am I doing wrong?

make sure you are using the correct size biscuits for the slots you are cutting, also make sure you are going in deep enough with your cuts.

also make sure your bisuits are dry and kept in an air tight container. You don't want them swelling before being used

Sounds to me as if the depth of cut on your b/jointer is not set deep enough for the size biscuits ur using. There should be a scale marked for #20 biscuits

You may also have to adjust your joiner.

Check your tool literature for a fine adjust screw or something of the like. I had to adjust it to depth to take the biscuits.

Something else biscuits ain't biscuits - some types of biscuits are proprietry to their respective equipment, that is triton biscuits are shaped totally different to Makita biscuits, make sure the biscuits match the tool.

One other thing if your depth of cut is okay (check by simply drawing a pencil line down the long axis of the biscuit, tap it into the slot if the line is above the workpiece - hole too shallow! ) I happened to be none too particular with my first set of biscuits and they swelled up prior to using - being a cheapskate, I sanded them back enough to fit in the slots.

One thing to remember with biscuits, there is room for an amount of error as the biscuits are usually made of beech and swell considerably with the moisture of glue.

    Good luck.
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
