Default A bit of fun with scale.

Have posted a few pics some time ago about a few of these. Since I had a full set together at once, plus some, then thought it may be of interest.
The one on the very top(in first picture) is life size and supermarket bought. Going down we have 2x,3x,4x,5x,6x,7x and finally 8x.
Second picture is much the same except the foreground is taken up with a bunch of 3x's.
Timbers used are huon pine, myrtle, sassafras, blackwood and Australian cedar.

Hi skot. I have a jig made up for each sized peg so that I can wind them up.

Will these be the latest temptation in Tassie timbers to attract the mainland tourists in all the shops and markets.
A novel little idea. Well done.

    .
No mate they are not the latest temptation. Have been making these pegs for the last 15 years. Got em in about 4 really good galleries here in Tassie plus 2 in N.S.W. Would like to get them in more good woodworking galleries, however good woodworking galleries seem to be pretty thin on the ground. Anyone know of any in Vic,Sth Aus, Wa, Qld? (maybe that should be another thread.)
Anyway, have even made a few really big ones. Bought a log of huon pine when I was at art school(in the 90's) as well as a 4m length of 32mm Stainless steel rod and made a cracker of a peg(see first picture). The huon log cost 5 hundred bucks, the stainless steel about $375, all up I reckon it cost a grand and about 10 days work. Put it in a gallery here in Hobart and told em I'd be happy with 5 grand. They put their 100% mark up on it, and there it was. One peg for 10 thousand bucks.
    It sold within a week!
Feeling like this was a pretty good caper I then made 2 more slightly smaller ones.
They took years to sell. And for a deflated price compared to the first one. Sometimes I guess you get lucky.
Second pic is one of the slightly smaller ones with it's handsome new owner. No doubt you Victorians or Hawthorn (the arch enemy) supporters will recognise him.
Had to cut the article up to fit it into the scanner.

No matter how big you go there is always someone who goes bigger....... In anticipation of the replies with the monumental peg sculptures in the States. Yep I've seen them all.
Pretty happy to stick with the ones in the original post for the moment as they are within reach of the regular folk.

You must have had access to a pretty impressive rolling or bending machine to create those springs in the 32mm stainless.

Great idea, seen them around and always wish I'd thought of it first.

The Tolga Woodworks Gallery used to be pretty good, although last time I was there about 8 years ago it had gone a little down hill. There was also a good one in Pemberton, WA, but their website seems to have been suspended, so I don't know if they are still there.
