Default How do I scallop a surface?

In the latest FWW (May/June 2005) there is a picture on page 58 of a jewellery box insert that has been cut out with a scroll saw and then scalloped. It includes a leaf design which is probably beyond me, but the design would work without it.
It looks rather effective and simple but I am unsure how to go about scalloping the surface.

    ClintO,
I havent seen the mag or picture you mention but the current AWW shows some scalloping using a pyrograph and the previous AWW shows a dremel tool to do some scalloping.

Gouges are very easy to use, just practise on some scrap.

My stuff usually comes out that way when I try to make them flat.
