Default Borax termite treatment for new stumps!

Anyone had any experience with using borax to prevent termites in bush poles?

I'm building a big firewood/tractor shed and I am using green hardwood logs about 300mm by 4.2 long. I'm planning on sinking them a meter down in concrete with a blue metal base to help with drainage. Termites are shocking around here and would prefer to have this shed upright for the long term.

I was looking at borax as I prefer to use no nasties but happy for some advice on this one! Anyone used borax for this? It's a shame we can't get Cresote anymore...I think that was safer and worked better than some of the systems we have now.. Anyone know of a better chemical treatment?

    Thanks guys!

Unfortunately Borax is not suitable for inground applications. The chemical does not have a "fixer" to bond it in the timber, so it will leach out. The same applies in aboveground situations where the timber is exposed to weather. Your best option would be to keep the timber above ground on gal steel bases and use class 1 logs ie ionbark, graygum, turpentine, mahogany etc.

    hi there guys,

unfortunately if you are going to put any timber in the ground it will be eaten by termites at some stage.
you should look at using termidor around the post.
check out my website about termidor

you could even wrap the bottom of the pole with Homeguard which is a strong plastic impregnated with Biflex which termites cant penetrate.
it shouldnt cost much for a tech to put some termidor down the hole before you put pole in hole.
you could also check out my website for some information on termites.
