    Default Bottlebrush coat stand help.

Hi all, I am about half way cleaning up a fallen bottlebrush, all the bark long gone and most borer marks. I'm just to decide on two things, the legs and the remaining borer holes.
Some of the holes go deep and I think they add to the character of the piece so I want to preserve some, should I use resin or a contrasting putty? I'm not sure of the flexibility of the wood as some parts have cracked during natural drying and thought adding density will only help the wood to split.
The legs will need to support a tree trunk of 5" at the base and tapering about 6' in height with a couple short sawn off branches (~10 - 15kg). I thought 4 legs would be better than 3 and I'd like them to be curved, meeting the trunk 2/3 along them with ?a semi mortise type join and pin method. I need something that I can steam bend and be strong enough to support its own wieght and a few coats. I was thinking 2" round stock of ?species, tapered toward the top or a laminate of 2 contrasting species (light-dark-light) left square with the highlighting dark strip running down the sides. Both steam bent. I haven't done any steam bending before so I'd like to have a crack at it.

    Thanks a bunch in advance.

Welcome. A photo of the timber piece would have been good. Why fill the borer holes at all!
An alternative would be to seek out some natural curved branches for the feet. However, you seem keen on bending so I say go for it. There are plenty of books available on the subject. We have Australian timbers with good bending qualities.
    Good luck.
