    Default Box plans

Having just spent a small fortune on a new Incra jig
set up, i am in need of a few simple free box making plans
to start me off, untill i can afford to buy a decent box making book.
I have been to the library, nothing there.
I also obtained a pile of free hardwood floorboards(i can get more ) that have a V groove running down the centre on one side, would it be any use
    for boxes?
And also scored a small lot of 12mm x 75mm pine offcuts that should be just right for boxes
Anyone able to help me out with a few plans?
    Cheers
    Colin

Redd, I don't think you tried very hard. Here's two web sites offering free step-by-step illustrated instructions on making small boxes. There are many more. Just type "small box plans" into your search engine.

    Hi Redd11,

Actually, if you don't mind my saying so, I think that you're somewhat missing the point of box making: develop your own ideas, set them out as plans if you wish, then just execute them.

Sometime the empirical method works very well, and can be satisfying too. Keep the ideas that work, and discard those that do not.

As well, I'd strongly suggest that you try hand making the boxes, i.e. with a hand saw, chisels, bevel & marking gauges, square and hand planes(s).

    Cheers!

I have to agree with Steve, I think he has the right approach. Boxes are fun and easy to make. Make a few to hold your tools to start with, then, when you feel adventurous, try something with expensive wood and tricky joinery.

Why not make a box for the Incra jig
Seriously though, when it comes to small boxes, jigs can be overkill - unless you are making a 'special' gift or doing a large number.

I bought the Incra jig + Triton router for a hobby to do box making and maybe other things when i get adventerous, and i am also new to woodworking.
I have a back and neck problem, repetive use of hand tools is a real pain.
As a newbie, a few simple plans would help give me the idea how to go about
it, what steps i need to take.
