I think the box is too shallow to carry off the base/feet. I would have just incorporated simple brackets in the carcase itself. $0.02.
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Well, at least LB has got a good range of opinions! Wouild be much worse if all he got was silence.
BTW - I was going to suggest this thread would have been better in the furniture section, but it seems to have generated plenty of action where it is, so I'll let sleeping dogs lie.........IW

I agree with everyone else, a simple ogee (cyma reversa) or similar on the skirt top and a liitle work on the legs to lighten them - but otherwise it's a nice looking box.

Well Ian, it's all hand tools and hide glue so far, and the handtool forum is the one that visit most often. (mods are welcome to move at their will)
Some sound ideas I like the bible box posted a few up.
Guys please don't apologize for answering a question that was asked of you. The input is great.
I've cut a simpler foot and will play around with the molding a little too.
The timber is cedar. Mostly Q/S and dark! It's ubber nice to work. And with my newly adjusted cap iron my smoother is putting a nice polish on it.Steven Thomas

To my eye, a simple quarter round on the top edge of the skirt would soften the line. For the feet, the full bullnose where the feet meet the underside of the skirt makes it look a little abrupt. Would a quarter round here make the feet look a little more flowing into the skirt? The lid and its edge are very much going to determin the final proportions. So again, a simple quarter round edge.
$0.02 minus members discount = $0.00

LB, one thing I hadn't realised when I made my post was the size of your box. I thought it was a lot bigger than I now see it is. I think a small piece can carry more decoration than a larger one, so I was probably being a bit tentative with what I was suggesting. However, I still think much depends on how you plan to do the lid, whether it's going to follow the more severe straight lines of the lower part, or take a different tack. In the latter case, I would be trying to maintain some sort of harmony from top to bottom...
Anyway, it's always worth mucking about & trying a few mock-ups. I reckon I see more pieces spoilt by poorly-chosen mouldings (including my own ) than any other fault......
Cheers,IW
