Building A Cubby From Scratch
Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I wanted to share my cubby building experience. I build it from scratch for my daughter for Christmas and it's taken me two months at a leisurely pace and will be finished tomorrow. I'll upload pics of my progress so far and post a few more tomorrow of the finished product.
I budgeted for $600 but I got carried away with the grand total coming in at $1080 accounting for every last screw. All materials are new from bunnings, mitre 10 and littlehampton sawmill(as this is the only supplier in SA of ACQ treated timber) with the exception of the roof coming from a small sheet metal business and timber for the base frame coming from a scrap yard.
I started out with a mitre 10 guide, which gave me the confidence to start the project but did not end up following it to the end. The end design is "inspired" by one of Aaron's Outdoor's cubbies.
I welcome any comments or questions.

I thought you said you were building a cubby house not a 5 star motel.
Excellent, well done.

Really nice.
The only problem I can see is that you will have all of the kids in the neighborhood either living at your place or pestering their own Dads for the same.

Nicely done!
The only question I have is: how'd you do the foundations? In one pic the floor frame is by the house with (I think?) a tiled area up in the top right corner of the pic, for it to sit on?
I know it means the cubby itself is transportable (six hefty men and a slab or two ) but how did you prep that tiled area?
Just asking, 'cos it is nice work and it'd be a shame if it was damaged 'cos one stump sunk into the ground.

The cubby is sitting on a timber deck. The deck was originally going to sport a day bed for the wife but there was nowhere else to place the cubby so my daughter took priority the deck's foundation is 9 stirrups concreted into the ground.
