Default Building A Lowline Entertainment Unit

I am about to embark on a project of building an entertainment unit .
It will be a lowline type 2mtrs long 500mm High x 500mm Deep.
I will be using Tasmanian Oak ..100x19 tounge and groove flooring.
My question is...Do I glue and clamp with the tounge and grooves installed OR do I remove tounge and groove and then join with biscuits ,I am looking for strength as it will be supporting a large tv set.
Looking forward to any tips/hints or constructive critisism.
    Cheers.
    Steve

    Hi
As T&G is already stong and has a bond to each other , I would just stick with it, haha, with glue of course.

    Steve,

The T&G may be good enough for this purpose, your other option is to remove the T&G at certain spots along the length and then insert biscuits at these points - should be easy and would give you the best of both worlds. I don't really think that the biscuits would offer much more on the T&G though.

It also depends on how you are going to support the boards also. Will you provide a face frame / framework with mitre and tenons joints for the unit or will it just be sides i.e. a box with butt joints. All depends on which way you want to go with the carcase joinery.

    Cheers.

Biscuits are poor in strenght compared to T&G and T&G will line up the boards way better than any other joint(providing they are machined good)in this type situation.

At 2m long you will need some internal support, like BrettC said some frames, 1 square frame at each end and at least 2~3 inbetween. These frames could be substituted with solid panels.
