Ryan,
It seems like a monumental project, but one which will give you a lifetime's satisfaction. Looking forward to the progress reports.

Wish you luck Ryan
That is my dream, get some land. Live in a camper while building a work shop. Live and work in the shop for a few years while I building my house . One day....
Just some advice I learned from an old framer when I use to help out on Habitat for Humanity Homes. When you pull a nial out of your pouch and find that the head is on the wrong side, Dont throw it away. That nail is for the other side of the house.JunkBoy999

Ryan, I apologise for not buying into your thread a little earlier. I just want to add a few comments. I have always wanted to build my own house, but moving around the globe has sort of got in the way, and now I feel to old to start such an exercise (also SWMBO would have coniptions at the thought) hence I envy you in this endeavour that will really make your house your home.
Next, remember the old addage of "he who builds his own house never finishes". make sure that you set realistic deadlines and work to them.
Finally I cant think of a better location to attempt this massive project. Your capability for creating an enourmous work load is an example to us all, all the very best with this, your biggest.

Ryanarcher, sawn timber in England often means 30 % wastage, timber on the land perhaps another 20 % ?.

Mate I think you got a couple of loose screws there or in your case perhaps a couple of wooden pegs!
You might be crazy but I am hanging out for the next lot of pics and wish you the best of luck with this huge project!

Thanks Guys!
the logs are down and "seasoning" now. the mill will be out later next month hopefully, and the process of cutting the joinery will begin this summer. (hopefully). no banks are involved yet, so wrestling and tickling time with the kiddo's gets priority for now. Thanks for the interest I'll post some more pics when it gets interesting.
