    Default building a wood desk

hello, i am going to build a wood desk in my contruction class through out this year and i want to know if anyone has some design ideas. i dont know what kind of wood to use. i have to pay for any wood that is other than pine or spruce. i dont mind but i wont bother if these types of wood will do.

i want the desk to be unique and possibly have my speakers integrated into it or something. aswell as a compartment for my computer possibly and i will need room for my
2 24 and 23 inch monitors. anyone have some design ideas? i am absolutely out of good ideas and need to get started on this project! sorry for any spelling errors, this was posted from my phone. also another note is that if you know of good speakers that will be good to integrate to my project, let me know. i have an Asus xonar dx7.1 sound card. the speakers dont have to be 7.1 but can be 5.1 or anything i can just change the settings. but any speakers that have a loud and good bass output. my freq responce for the sound card is 10hz- 40000hz

    thanks in advance.

    Hi Lithium,
Your specs sound to tech for me to suggest any thing beyond...two drawer boxes and a belt of drawers to join the two boxes.

re: the pine, it is a challenge to make something beautiful from ordinary timber. Wharton Esherick said...." if you can't make
something beautiful with what is in your backyard you're in the wrong game" ( paraphrase )

I would use frame and panel. Pick the narrow straight grain for stiles, rails. Use small, sound knots and flat sawn for panels. Try and
balance the knots. Continuous grain on the belt of drawers. Square shoulders, instead of scribe/ counter scribe, will be easier and
    look contemporary.
    Cheers, Bill
