Default Anyone built a Shed from Hardiplank?

I am yet to build my shed out the back, using my 2 car garage at the mo'.

Rather than buying a colorbond shed i was thinking I would like to build a wood framed work shop clad with hardiplank to give it the weather board look. I guess I want it to look more of a "building"than a "shed".

Anyone built their own instead of purchasing a shed?

I built mine from a steel stud frame and Hardiplank as a double garage but now use it as my shed/workshop. I built it just over 29 years ago.

Not a shed, but I recently built a timber framed cubby house that was clad with Hardies Primeline FC weatherboards (https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...ht=cubby+house)
They were very easy to use and give a great finish.

How does the cost of differ between an "off the shelf" steel shed and a custom timber framed shed?
    Cheers.

    Vernon.

I built mine using steel housing frame and then screwed wide timber chamfer boards identical to the house. Doors and windows were also in the colonial Queenslander style. Two tilta doors were specially made from same material as frame, onto which I fixed T&G boards. I also ran underground power and speaker cables from the house.

Building looks like the house. Was more expensive but no regrets 15 years later. It's our outdoor living room/entertainment..dust and all.

So Soredust, build it yourself, you will be glad you did. Other than the satisfaction and fun you will have for years to come, it will add to your property.

I Built one using a Titan Steel frame- which is a stud frame and clad it with Hardiplank, at the beginning of the year. It was 12mX6m, and turned out fairly well. The wife likes it because it matches the house. This is the best pic that I have of it half finished.

I would rather not work it out, in case the "öff the shelf shed" is cheaper

made a games room on the back of the house with timber frame & hardi board worked well. But one word of advise isulate it well & I put a layer of plastic between the frame & boards just to elininate the chance of drafts Works great coolest room in the house.

Ah yes, that's exactly what I imagined it could look like. Much better to have that in my back yard than a Green shed.

i just finished a quote for a 5m x 3m toilet block for the local community hall and it worked out cheaper to use hardwood weather boards than th hardi product.

this was with 8" weather boards to match the hall.

That would be nice Carl but... soredust is in Adelaide, 8" hardwood boards would cost a bomb.

You could use Hardiflex sheets and bag finish it, that would be about the cheapest.
I seriously doubt it will be cheaper than a normal steel kit shed.

Frame it with treated pinus . Its' a workshop and you will want to nail and screw stuff to the walls and rafters etc. Metal studs do not give you that freedom .
Re. the cladding . Within reason , whatever the pocket can afford .

    Thumbs up

Good idea To use Hadiplank Jock.
I have a steel Titan and, while it is a good shed and was easy to erect it has a problem that I constantly curse. In cold weather the condensation inside causes problems with surface rust on anything not properly covered or protected. Can also be bloody hot in summer.
