Default Where can I buy one of these

Hi. I need to buy a small circular cutter like the one in the picture. I want to use it to make small slitting cuts in timber. Need to be up to 14mm deep.

The problem with this one is that it has a thickness of 0.80mm which means it probably cuts a slot about 0.90mm. I need the slot about 0.65mm.

I have little saw blades for dremels which are exactly 0.60 thick but they only cut about 10mm deep.

I have looked at router bit slot cutters but they only go down to 1.5mm thick.

I cant find anything on google - cant really imagine what to search under however.

    Any ideas, anyone ?

    cheers
    Arron

    Default The Saw Blade.

    Hi Arron,
Is it a possibility, that you could have a go at making one.
Maybe an old Hand Saw Blade, could be used.

I know you want local, and this isn't, but it looks like the sort of product you might want if you can track down a local supplier..

I think Fein have a blade that may suit your purposes, but you may need to buy the whole Fein kit, which isn't cheap!

McJing sell slitting saws with blade thicknesses of 0.4 mm and 0.5 mm.

I remember reading a machinist (jewellers??) article about methods of cutting very fine slits/slots, but the only technique I can definitely recall used fine wire, and possibly an abrasive paste. Not sure if that sort of approach would be viable for you.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

I have made (for a one off use) a saw blade by glueing garnet paper back to back, cutting out the circumference with craft circle cutter and punching a hole for the arbour.
    It did the job.

A couple of months ago, I needed a slit cutter a little thinner than the Dremel ones, so I ground the face of the Dremel cutter a little thinner, (using a Dremel grinding disc). Worked well.
Could you perhaps do the same to the cutter you showed in the pic? You only need to take 1/4 mm off the surface. (If it's like the Dremel HS cutters, it doesn't have a 'set' to the teeth.)

I have bought these types of slitting saws for my toolroom from Graham McDonald services in Giraween.
They stock all sorts of cutters and taps and some things that most people wouldn't know what they are for.
From memory I bought a 0.4mm slitting saw ( about 50 or 60 mm dia ) for a job I had on at the time.
I made my own arbor for it, but they may be able to help with that too. Or it might fit an arbor you already have.
