Default Where to buy biscuits for biscuit joiner?

    Hi all,

I've just bought myself a biscuit joiner and as you would expect it didn't come with any biscuits, so I cant use it yet

Anyway was just wondering where the best place would be to get some biscuits from to get me started. I noticed there are a few sizes available, which is most popular?

I noticed carbatec have an assortment pack as seen here.. 378 Piece Biscuit Jointing Set : CARBA-TEC

    Is this good value?

    Thanks

I normally buy mine at bunnings as I only use small quantities, you can buy them by the thousand at lincoln sentry and places like that.

    Default The Biscuits.

    Hi Com_VC,
I know of Woodies making their own out of 3mm MDF, & it comes in sheets as a Guard for Laminex.
Now this was a few years ago, but would 3 Ply do the same job.
My Friend would stack smallish pieces & nail the ends, to keep them together, cut them roughly with the Bandsaw & then sand them.
He used this method in making Kitchen Tables, using Blackwood 8in.wide, & putting the pieces together that way.
    Regards,

but the pine biscutes are dried out, very very very dry so much so that when they have contact with PVA they swell up to hold the joint together

One of the concerns I have with biscuits is that if the timber is subject to moisture that the biscuits will swell more than the main timber and cause splitting. As much of my Paulownia goes into water craft especially Alaia boards I use and sell biscuits made of Paulownia. It is not hard to strip some timber on the band saw and dress it down to the required thickness.
