Office Supply stores and larger Art Supply stores will have lots of fresh carbon paper. BUT, it is ever so slightly greasy and practically impossible to erase (or sand off) if you make a mistake. Shaving it off with a skew works best for me.
"Transfer" paper and Graphite paper are more like pencil lead and erasable. Art stores might have artist's graphite blocks = about 5mm x 15mm x 30mm. You can scribble that on the back of your drawing for transfer. Expensive, $5 or more.
In any case, use a soft pencil, HB or softer, to avoid denting the wood.
Even if I am drawing directly on the carving block, I use 4B or even 6B pencil.

SWMBO uses this stuff when she's quilting
Clover USA Chacopy Tracing Paper - Marking Tools
and I've pinched a sheet or two of it over time.
Try your local Lincraft or quilting supplies store
