Default Wanted to buy or hire plug cutter 28 mm?

So, I’ve bored a few holes in the legs of my workbench, and counterbored the face with a 28 mm forstner bit, and now realise I don’t have a plug cutter to suit this size. Any ideas where I might either buy one or borrow one locally or make one on the lathe? Or could I find maybe a 1” one and bore it out a bit? I’m thinking that might be difficult because of the boring bar banging against the longitudinal cuts in the tool? Ideas please gurus, thanks.

Can you not just make plugs on the lathe with a slight taper.
An fit these in place ?

    Cheers Matt.

    28mm hole saw?

Just use the pilot drill to start the groove then remove it so it's a solid block?

If you don’t have a lathe or 28mm holesaw and there’s only a few of them just Bandsaw them out and sand them on the disc sander.
I scored some bargain door hardware recently and had to make plugs for 4 doors and this was the quickest way.

make yourself a 27mm or thereabouts diameter plug.
Use the plug to sort of centre a 30 mm Forstner bit.
Make a 30 mm plug with a 30 mm tenon cutter

Failing that as Matt suggests, use your lathe to make a slightly tapered 28 mm plug

Yes but they would be end grain which wouldn’t look right

Not trying to be a smarty, why not joust mount the timber, the way you want on the large then,
There’s lots of ways of doing that.

yep, just cut some square blanks this evening, once I figure out how to get the three jaw chuck off and put the 4 jaw on (it's an old lathe I was given)
I reckon I'll be off and running.
Or would a face plate be better?

the problem with a face plate would be the screw hole.

if getting the 3 jaw chuck off will be difficult, you could use a chisel to roughly shape the very end of a square blank and start turning using the 3 jaw chuck
