yep use form ply.

you can also buy 3mm MDF backed melamine (probably better off searching for this as formica and laminex are brands not a generic product term) from bunnings which you could just glue down to your table.



I typed "buy melamine roll" into google and this was the first result that came up $47 for a 2.4x1.2 sheet

If you mean the plastic coated formply, I agree. It is very slippery stuff to the extent you have to be extra careful strapping multiple sheets on the back of a flatbed truck or trailer as it wants to move around at the slightest provocation.

It used to be that the black coated material was made from softwood, while the red (burgundy really) was hardwood.

Did you try the Laminex Shop, branches everywhere.

Formply is not particularly hard. Drag the corner of something across it like a board or a sheet product and you'll get a bruise track DAMHIK. This may not be an issue for you. Laminex won't do that.

Went through this same thing recently and settled on formply as well. The few places I found that sold laminex in small quantities to average punters had fairly high prices. It wasn’t worth it when a sheet of formply can be had for $120 or so
