Where to buy tools in Japan
Hi,
I'll be heading to Japan in the next few months and will be working out of Yokohama. I'll have 4 free days so thought I should pick up from chisels, and I can do day trips from there. Its been difficult to Google where good places are to buy Japanese Chisels from. Does anyone here have any pointers?
From other threads on here I've found that Hakone is a good region to get to to look at woodwork 'things', but I'm not sure if you can buy tools there.
Thanks,
Nathan.

I can't give you any leads, and hopefully more knowledgeable members can point you in the right direction, but I just wanted to say that I'm officially jealous. Good luck and hopefully you come back with some bargains.

Also, if you're interested in Japanese chisels, you may want to check out my thread in the Japanese Hand Tools sub-forum where I share what I believe is a great deal on a set of hand forged blue steel umeki chisels.
Cheers,
Mike.

There used to be a place in Kawagoe that made & sold fantastic (but not cheap) blades, but it's 15 years since I was there. Even if you don't buy anything it's well worth a look, as is the whole town.
Try sending a PM to Goodwoody on these forums, he may know if it's still there.
