    Default Buying a dovetail jig

I am in the process of purchasing a dovetail jig.
What dovetail jigs do you use.
Does it have any problems associated with the jig.
    What's good about the jig?
Did it cost an arm and a leg to buy?

    Thanks in advance.

Do a search or have a look in the router jig section - plenty of info there.

Yes, mine did cost an arm and a leg to buy, but it does great dovetails and finger joints. Best part is, it isn't just a dovetail jig, it is a complete router fence solution as well.

What did I buy, Incra LS System, available from Professional Woodworkers.

I did a thread on it some time ago,

As suggested above, a search will find lots of information on dovetail jigs

    Thumbs up Dovetail Jigs

Looked at lots of jigs.Would have bought a leigh butat the time it was very expensive . I had also read of problems with tear out and I didn;t really like the idea of using the router over the work.
Looked at the Katie. Good set up but service and sales in Oz non existent.
Bought a Jointech syastem for peanuts. It is similar to the Incra. Unfortunately very fiddley. I kept it though because the fence is excellent as is the poitioning device. That was its other drawback - no metric scales available.
Finally settled on the Gifkins. Simple to set up, extremely accurate and you run the work over the router bit, a much better way to do things. No tearout. It has a few minor drawbacks but nothing to do with it's operation. It does lack a little of the versatility of the incra, and the leigh.

And Carba-Tec are now advertising the Leigh D1600 at runout price $299 with a VRS thrown in. I suppose the new Super Jigs replace it.
    Darned good value, though.

I agree with others above. Even though I own the Leigh D4R, the Leigh D1600 is a great jig for the price. 400mm wide is ample width unless you wish to make blanket boxes, and variable pins are not always required. I have used this jig and also demonstrated it at the Perth WW show. Indeed a little ripper.
