    Default What is this called????

What is that "thick" inlay type decorative timber stripping called?

The only example I can think of to reference is the Studley tool chest, it has it around the edge of the two halves where it opens. In that case it is ebony inlayed with ivory diamonds from memory. It can be stripes, dots, checkers etc.

When I google inlay banding it still comes up with 1mm or 1/32" thick stuff, like veneer.

The stuff in those photos is solid sticks with depth not paper thin veneer. So I don't know what I mean lol, I have just seen it in photos.

Yes the "umbrella" term for this decoration would be decorative banding.
You will only find the very thin lengths for sale commercially, if you want anything like you are looking at you would need to make it yourself from resawn veneers.
I used to make all my own bandings and marquetry and never used any bought-in items except for the stringing and veneers.

I think I've only ever seen it described as edge banding

and you normally need to make it yourself
