Thanks everything, the electronics of all this is getting way out of my league. Sure we can buy light dimmers down here, what do you mean by,....a dimmer and a box

The cheap dimmers I'm familiar with are light switch replacements. They mount in the electrical box for the wall switch. To use one separately you need a box to put it in along with a receptacle and power cord.

Yes, just a different form factor and a knob in place of a pedal and spring.
