Carba-tec Melbourne?
Just received my Feb 2005 copy of The Australian Woodworker today!!
The ads for Carbatec - back of front page, pages 8 and 9 and back page do not mention a Melbourne branch. Is there still a franchise in Victoria - Richmond or Bayswater? I was planning a day trip to Bayswater these holidays. Now is looks like Brizzy, Sydney or Perth.
Does anybody know anything?
Happy New Year woodies.

They moved from Richmond to their Bayswater store a couple of days before Christmas. So your day trip to Bayswater can still be done.

I think they reopen 4th Jan and have some sort of sale on. The Bayswater number is (03) 9720 8744.

Visited Carbatec Bayswater today after finding out Richmond store had closed just before Christmas.
They had moved all the Richmond stock to Bayswater and were closed to retail customers. I went inside at it was a mess. Re-opening Jan 4th.

To a large extent I have given up on Carbatec Melbourne, I have found it frustrating and unsatisfying shopping at this shop. I believe that it is quite different in the other Carbatec franchises.
Unless you live next to bayswater I would not bother going to Carbatec. There are other good woodwork shops in that part of Melbourne and for those of us in the other half of Melbourne I would suggest Get Woodworking on Koroit Creel Road in Williamstown. I have found that this shop is interested in our custom and goes out of its way to supply and support us.
Suresh
I have no financial or other ties with this shop, I just want to support a decent alternative to Carbatec. If they find that they are losing customers they might finally become resposive to the numerous complaints that they have received.

Sod it, I've forgotten the suburb but Jim Carroll is between Geelong and Queenscliffe.
Carrolls Woodcraft (I think).
If you get Jim on the right day he can be quite pleasant but beware during full moons

Carbatec Victoria are no more - check out the Brisbane Carbatec Site
If I do not clearly express what I mean, it is either for the reason that having no conversational powers, I cannot express what I mean, or that having no meaning, I do not mean what I fail to express. Which, to the best of my belief, is not the case.

I guessing nobody will notice any difference in their service.

Has anyone been to the bayswater store to see if it is actually closed 23/3/05?

Was there yesterday, bought a couple of odds and sods, sign in window announced a forthcoming auction but I forget the date, the staff seemed OK but as usual nothing available.

I was there too Iain, maybe you saw me. I'm made of plasticine and have a large lump on one side of my head. Like Humprey B Bear without fur, only thinner.
They were flat chat and the service was good. They aren't closed or even look like it. The machinery display is bigger and there's a tool auction on Sat 9th April at 12 noon.If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.
