Carbatech height measurement device
I picked up this from carbatech recently hoping to measure the height accurately of my TS and router table etc.

When I put the battery in that arrived with the unit I only had mm sign show up. Put a new battery in and I get this screen

I cannot get the unit to display anything else. It won't turn off or set or clear to use the device. Is it defective or just not configured. I've followed the so called instruction sheet that came with it but the unit doesn't respond to anything the manual says to do.
Thanks for any help in advance

Have you tried taking the battery out, and leaving it out for a while, and reinsert the battery. Somehow it seems as if the unit needs resetting itself.
If that fails take it back to Carbatec for replacement.

Re: Carbatech height measurement device
2 seconds after i posted this i marched out to garage determined to fix it. I removed the battery to reset it again to find it doing the same thing. One more reset and it works like a charm

I've always wanted one of those,
am wandering is the base magnetic and how bulky is it? is it small enough to use with a skilsaw or router?
How are you finding it?
Thanks.

Slidingdovetail, the base isnt magnetic but it is heavy. I think the overall weight of the unit is 3kg but i still found mysellf holding the base while i was rising up the blade heigh on my TS in the photo. it has a tiny arm on it so id imagine it could measure the height of all sorts. Last night i was setting the depth on my router table and hand held router which turned out to be very accurate.
Overall pretty happy with the unit. Originally i was going to purchase the a wixey height guage but wanted one sooner than waiting weeks and also liked the idea that this unit weighed 3 kg and was sturdy construction made of steel. i think its well worth the $99 price tag

Just as some added info, I have the vernier type of the same thing but find that the base is not really heavy enough especially if located at a particular height and then the router bit or blade raised to that setting. It is great for reading the heights as a check or to know exactly at what height something already is.
For what it is worth I also have one of these which wasn't expensive but tends to get used more than the old vernier type - what you wouldn't give for 20 year old eyes.

I have both the mini digital Wixey and the Carbatec gauges and both have their uses but the Wixey is not suitable for the table saw in my shed. The Wixey will sit one leg on the cast iron and the other on the insert which is not always dead level with the cast table. I mostly use HDPE for inserts and these can have a small bit of rise and fall to them. The Carbatec gauge with its increased reach is the best tool for setting blade height on the table saw.
