Thread: Carbitool TCT brad point bits - anyone tried them?

at a guess: they assume you're drilling for hardware, and provide bits to match M4, M5, M6, M8, 3/8", M10 and M12?

Well I've assumed and made an ass of myself. Having bought my set from that green shed I thought they were Sutton,
but using one this morning I couldn't find any branding. The colour of the packaging suggests Irwin but then tucked away
in a corner on the back in small print was "Fisch".
A pleasant surprise but there's no sign of them on Bunny's website.

I have the 25 piece Fisch set from Axminster. The drill set covers a diameter range from 1 to 13mm in 0.5mm steps. Sizes 1mm to 2.5mm are standard twist drills, the rest are brad point:

Thanks Brian, appreciate you chiming in on this Fisch set. This particular set I find slightly perplexing, as the same set is advertised via Amazon where they are nearly universally panned in the reviews; so much so, I wonder if the Amazon sets are MIC knockoffs? Where as, the reviews on the Axminster site are all very positive, including yours.

At under $100 for the set, it all seems a little too good to be true for Euro manufactured gear.

It’s a bit confusing I agree. Fisch make TWO sets that look the same. One is a “standard” set and the other is a “professional” set. See Fisch website: FISCH-Tools — Ultimate drilling solutions

Axminster sell both types catalogue page 106 Axminster Tools Catalogue 2020/21 by Axminster Tools - Issuu

At Axminster there is around a 35% price difference between the two.

Don’t know about the Amazon versions - I prefer to deal with Axminster

In the reference on Brian's later post, Axminster answers this issue well.

Fisch make two seemingly identical sets of brad point drills:

• Cheaper, £33.32 ex-VAT, is made from chrome vanadium steel and, according to Axminster, "... work particularly well in softwoods." and
• Dearer, £46.65 ex-VAT, is made from high speed steel and, again according to Axminster, "... is suitable for drilling into hard and soft wood, MDF and other manufactured boards. .."

Given the contankerous nature of many Aus hardwoods and the ibiqueness of MDF, I think I would prefer to pay the £13.33 (AU$25) extra for the HSS version. [Note: I have not used these, so I am not recommending them.]

Me, too. I have had consistently excellent service from Axminister over many years. Amazon are useless when something goes wrong.

Also like Dieter Schmid in Germany - his product reviews/descriptions are always very objective and honest - no marketing hype.
